Local SEO is a technique by which internet users can be directed to the nearest business or organization that they require the services of. This can be a movie theater or a restaurant or a barbershop or even a local lawyer’s office. Local SEO simply provides them the nearest, best option that they can avail as a solution.

So how does IoT fit into all this? It’s the system that will get more and more devices to connect with each other and make that process faster. In fact, it’ll make that process much better as well. In return, Local SEO will also make IoT better by giving the system more data to work with.

IoT is a conceptual network that will allow smart devices to connect with each other all over the world. This will include large machines like smart vehicles and smart subway systems to small tech like temperature and pressure sensors. Together this network will provide massive amounts of data for companies to work with. This will essentially provide quick and plentiful services to their customers at a moment’s notice.

However, it’s not just about that. It’s about a holistic world that will be connected at all times and can respond instantaneously to stimuli every microsecond.

Now, of course, this is a dream world right now. There are nowhere as many smart devices or sensors to make this work right now. However, as technology zooms by us, it’s becoming more and more possible.

How Does Local SEO Fit into It?

With IoT, search engines and AI networks will have orders of magnitude more data available to them than before. Also, local SEO will be able to recommend more businesses and specific results to customers by using this data.

Local SEO and IoT will complement each other this way and grow together. Furthermore, through responses to instantaneous stimuli, local businesses will be able to market their products better. A temperature sensor in a car that consistently records high temperatures in the summer may indicate a broken air conditioner. A local auto repair shop may be able to provide an ad to that customer using this information.

This is just a tiny example of what may be possible through the marriage of these two systems.

What Does This Mean for Small Businesses?

Small businesses will be able to exploit many more marketing opportunities through this technology. IoT sensors constantly feeding them data will be able to isolate behavioral data and become the basis for new product pitches. Essentially, small businesses will be able to grow and profit faster from this technology.

While IoT is nowhere near a fully realized network right now, it’s already starting to show promise. Geo targeting ads on social networks and geo-specialized searches are now common on Google.

In the future, this will become more widespread and local businesses will be able to thrive in this environment.
